New extension of the suspension of deadlines by the Brazilian PTO – what changes?
The Brazilian PTO (INPI) once again extends the suspension of all deadlines. Now, the new suspension date is up to May 15th, 2020.
Likewise, teleworking for the Institute’s servers and employees has also been extended, which means that the cases will continue to be examined.
It is worth mentioning that this suspension of deadlines is valid for cases that are already in administrative process, with terms that have started before or even during the suspension.
However, it should be noted that the protection of industrial property rights should not always be postponed. For new requirements of rights, without claiming priority, the filing should be performed as soon as possible, in order to safeguard the respective date.
As the use of the extension is optional and users can petition before the INPI at any time, by means of the online systems, it is recommended that the actions before the INPI be carried out promptly, ensuring expedited processing for such actions.
