The deal closed on 8 August and is valued at 457 million reais (US$142 million). The fund, named Montjuic, made a capital injection of 350 million reais (US$108 million) in the franchisee, as well as purchasing a stake worth 107 million reais (US$33 million). Montjuic bought a share of BK Brasil Operação e Assessoria a Restaurantes from majority shareholder Vinci Partners. The Brazilian private equity company hired Lobo & de Rizzo Advogados for the sale. The same firm also advised Burger King Corporation on the shareholder change. Lefosse Advogados advised a subsidiary of Singaporean investment fund Temasek, which is also a shareholder of BK Brasil. BK Brasil owns and operates the Burger King chain in Brazil and provides operational services to other franchisees in the country. The deal will finance Burger King’s expansion in Latin America’s largest market. The fast food restaurant is the fourth largest such chain in Brazil, behind Subway, McDonald’s and Bob’s. Vinci has owned BK Brasil since 2011.
